Mill Creek, Washington is a fast-growing community in the Puget Sound area that saw a need to develop a strategic plan articulating the community’s vision for the city while simultaneously addressing very real fiscal issues related to service provisions, possible annexations, and the effects of the economic downturn. The Strategic Plan utilized a combination of city council retreats and detailed financial analysis to arrive at a consensus on the community vision coupled with an implementation plan that allows the city to be nimble and responsive to rapidly changing economic circumstances.
In October 2012, the American Planning Association (APA) and the Planning Association of Washington (PAW) awarded Larry Patterson and Leland Consulting Group led by Studio Cascade, received the Honorable Mention Award for Citizen Involvement for the City of Mill Creek Strategic Plan. For over 25 years, programs awarded have been designed to bring recognition to both public and private sector planning efforts. The PAW and the Washington Chapter of the APA have mutually honored outstanding contributions to the planning field in Washington.
